Thank you to everyone that attended our Annual General Meeting and Prize Giving on Friday 30th August, including our special guests Sarah Powrie, Scott Milne, and Angus McPhee from the Orakei Local Board. The support and interest that the OLB has shown in Mission Bay Tennis Club has been amazing and much appreciated.

It was a successful and fun evening with the approval of the Club's Annual Financial Statements and appointments to open Committee roles.

In case you missed it Live, and to immortalise everyone who made it there, you can find the link on our website.

Love Tennis: Sunday 8th September

We had a fabulous Love Tennis Day at Mission Bay Tennis Club this year on Sunday 8th September.

This was one of our busiest Love Tennis Days in the history of this event ever and it was wonderful to see so many people and families from the community.

This was an important day to celebrate and promote Mission Bay Tennis Club, our new Head Coach Nelson Cuellar and introduce the Community to Tennis.

We hope all of our Members, New Members and Guests all enjoyed the on-court fun with our new Head Coach Nelson Cuellar, and the off-court activities like the bouncy castle, photo booth, face-painting, ice-cream, coffee, and kids’ corner.

So much thanks goes to all of our volunteers that worked so hard throughout quite a few stressful moments yet made the day super fun and memorable for everyone.

Thank you also to our Sponsors and Suppliers, with special mention to We Bliss You for providing the FREE Massages and New World Eastridge for donating some of the Sausages and Bread!

We're still overloaded and catching up from the day but hope to report back with more details about our successes from the day in due course!

Meanwhile, Congratulations to our Competition Winners!

Please note: Prizes winners will be contacted directly for delivery of Prizes (if not already received).

Dear Community: Training Programme

Mission Bay Tennis Club is collaborating with Dear Community, a non-profit organisation designed to help women with their depression and loneliness through connecting them to others through monthly events, by hosting a 6 week Coaching Program at Mission Bay from Tuesday 15th October.

Similar to Tennis NZ and the Mental Health Foundation, Dear Community believe that connecting with others helps with mental health but also understand that moving the body and being outdoors helps as well.

This is a great opportunity for us to help the Community, promote ways to wellbeing and a potential opportunity for Membership growth which helps all of our Members!
About Dear Community.
Dear Community is a non-profit organisation dedicated to making the lives of young females aged 18-35 better and more fulfilling through hosting monthly events to meet new friends, hang out and have heaps of fun! With a huge focus on Mental Health, Dear Community assists women minimise depression through offering connection to other women.

Dear Community currently have over 33,900 women following Dear Community on Instagram @dearcommunitynz with over 5000 attending their monthly events over the last two years across New Zealand.

Dear Community was born out of this idea that making friends for young women can be so hard! As an adult, if you aren’t in a club, church group, gym or have a cool workplace, it is pretty much near impossible to meet people. Dear Community host over 40 events per month, across 17 different cities in New Zealand. We have 80 incredible volunteer leaders that help us connect people together through events such as pottery, painting, workshops, brunches, cocktail evenings, weekend away trips and so much more.

7. Interclub:

Saturday Senior Interclub

Senior Interclub started on Saturday 7th September and we are now into Round 3!

There has been some tough competition so far, including during our warm ups! If you haven't seen already on our Socials pages, the result of Round 1 saw Club Manager and Head Coach, with injuries on the same day, two Interclub matches, two tennis balls, two broken pinkies, four combined days at Middlemore and two surgeries!

There have been a few hotly contested competitions with a number of 3-set matches and competitions lost on game count after ties on matches and sets! Unfortunately there has also been a few defaults due to injuries or availability.

Good luck for upcoming Rounds and the Season!

A summary of the current standings and results based off what has been played and scores submitted so far as of Round 3, Week 1 is below.

Our Open Mens 4 Team are currently at the top of their Competition standings. Well done so far guys!

Junior Interclub:

We are excited to have submitted 5 Junior Interclub Teams for this season.

Tennis Auckland is working through the Draws and hopefully we will receive them by Friday 18th October before the first Round on Saturday 2nd/Sunday 3rd November.

Thank you to Amy Crichton our Junior Conveynor for all of her hard work recruiting players and pulling the teams together. Thank you also to the everyone who has agreed to Captain or Manage a Team.

Twilight Senior Interclub

We have a few players interested in Twilight Interclub, which is a Weekday evening competition, played on Mondays and Tuesdays at 6.30pm, and hope to submit a Team by Sunday 13th October.

The Competition starts on Monday 4 November and Tuesday 5 November, at 6.30pm, likely for 6 weeks of play before Christmas and then restart on Monday 17 February for up to 6 weeks of play after Christmas (depending on entry numbers received).

Please note we have not had a Twilight Team for a number of years so we are excited to put forward a Team.

Player Responsibilities and Code of Conduct

Please be reminded of Player Responsibilities and the Code of Conduct when playing Interclub.

Player Responsibilities:

Please make sure that you are familiar with the Tennis Auckland Interclub Rules 2024-25 and the Tennis NZ Code of Behaviour.
  • Players must accept the Team Captain is responsible for the organisation and management of the Interclub Team and you will abide by decisions made by the Team Captain in respect of the performance of the Team.
  • Players will turn up to the scheduled venue on time and be ready to play as determined by your Team Captain or that of the opposition Team. As an Interclub player, yourself, the Team, the Club and indeed the opposition Team expect you to try your best.
  • Players are expected to adhere to the Tennis NZ Code of Behaviour on and off the court, namely being respectful, fair and honest in all dealings with players. You represent Mission Bay and we zealously protect our image and reputation. Any behaviour which brings Mission Bay Tennis Club, the game of tennis, or the Team into disrepute will not be tolerated. This includes unsportsmanlike behaviour, foul language, equipment abuse and physical altercations.
  • Players will advise the Team Captain at the earliest opportunity of any scheduled days where you are unavailable, or if there is an instance where you are suddenly unavailable.
Host Days:
  • We expect all of our Teams to be good hosts. Please remember that when hosting Interclub you are expected to: Arrive ahead of the start time to ensure the Club house is open and suitable for guests.
  • Welcome the opposing Team and ensure they can access the courts for warm up.
  • Provide after-match food for the opposing Team, appropriate for having played several hours of tennis.
  • All home Teams are responsible for tidying the Club house and courts This includes ensuring the following is completed before leaving:

    - Courts are clean and tidy, which includes, bringing in chairs and rubbish from the courts
    - Court gates are locked
    - Club House is clean, dishes are washed and away, wiping tables, vacuuming the floors and tidying chairs (including bringing chairs in from the balcony), and all rubbish is removed from the Club House (transferred to outdoor collection rubbish and recycling bins) and the dishwasher is emptied, drained and turned off (refer to instructions by the dishwasher).
    - Club House bar, windows and doors are all locked, and alarm system activated. If you do not have a code for the alarm system inform the Club President or Club Managers to activate the alarm for you.
If you are the last to leave it is your responsibility to ensure all of the above has been completed, and ultimately the Captain’s responsibility to ensure Team compliance.
If we do not do this, we will need to pay a cleaner to do it, which will increase subs for everybody.

Thank you and enjoy your Summer Senior Interclub season!

10. Reminders

Social Media Engagement: Social Media plays a significant part in the success of the Club by increasing our brand awareness, community engagement and search engines also consider social signals (such as Likes, Shares and Hashtags) when determining website rankings. So, your engagement can indirectly boost our visibility and in the long term, that can only help us to make the Club better for you! We encourage you to react (preferably with a Like or Love) on our Socials Media posts please! Thank you!👍

Reviews: Reviews also play a significant part in the success of the Club too. Please also give your Club a plug by adding a review on Google and Facebook. This will be a great help to MBTC. Thank you! 🙏

Lights: The Lights for the Court come on automatically for all evening bookings. If you cannot make your booking or cut your booking short for any reason please cancel in ClubSpark so lights aren't left on when no-one is playing. We have had a number of community complaints regarding the Lights being left on when there is not tennis played, so appreciate your efforts to address this. It also allows others to use this booking if it’s peak hours.

Guests: Please remember all guests to the courts should be paying a $5 court fee. We have noticed a lot of members are bringing guests but not adding them to your booking. To avoid us having to shoulder tap you and to save the committee time please add them at the time of our booking. Maintaining the courts are the clubs largest expense and the $5 fee is to make sure everyone using the courts is contributing to wear and tear - not just our members.

Court Gates: If you are leaving and there is no one else playing on your set of courts please close the gates behind you.

Super Soaker: Thanks to the generous support of our local board, Ōrākei Local Board, we are now the proud owner of a Bowdry surface water remover. @orakeilocalboard have been great supporters of MBTC, not just financially but also attending our AGM’s (where almost the entire board was represented) and to the ribbon cutting ceremony to open the new floodlights. Thank you #orakeilocalboard, making a difference in the community.

Sand Drag Mat: If you notice an uneven build-up of sand or too much sand in one particular area on a Court you are about to play on, (this can be caused by water ponding after a rain shower), it is recommended to use the Drag Mat to distribute the sand to minimise the risk of a fall. The drag mat can usually be found hanging on the fence of one of the courts.

Club Room Hire: Did you know our clubrooms are available to hire? If you are interested, please contact us to find for more info.
