2. Welcome to Our New Head Coach
|
We are thrilled to introduce the new Head Coach of Mission Bay Tennis Club: Nelson Cuellar
|
Nelson is a seasoned tennis professional with experience as both as a Player and a Coach.
|
Nelson has been a high-performance Player since the age of 8 and has over 18 years of Coaching experience across the USA, Europe, and New Zealand.
|
Nelson is a Tennis NZ Registered Coach, an ITF Level 2 Club Professional Coach and has held several head coaching positions around Auckland.
|
In 2018 he was awarded Tennis Auckland Club Coach of the Year (2017-2018).
|
|
We are so pleased to have Nelson, his partner Krista and Tennis One onboard with us! Please make them both feel Welcome!

Member Survey
Nelson is interested to get to know every one of our Members. He has already met many of you at his first Club Night on Wednesday 21st August and on the Courts during the week.

During the Love Tennis month of September, Nelson is offering Mission Bay Tennis Club Members 50% off their first 2 Private or Group Lessons!

Nelson Cuellar (ITF Level 2 qualification): $100 for Non-Members ($50 each first 2 sessions) or $85 ($42.50 each first 2 sessions) for Club Members.
|
Group Lessons (depending on the maximum number of players per session):
|
Maximum 6 players per coach: $30 ($15 first 2 sessions) for Non-Members or $25 ($12.50 first 2 sessions) for Club Members.
|
Maximum 4 players per coach: $40 ($20 first 2 sessions) for Non-Members or $35 ($17.50 first 2 sessions) for Club Members.

Join us to promote, volunteer to help and/or attend Love Tennis Day to be held on Sunday 8th September from 10am - 2pm. We will also be hosting Members and New Members Social Matchplay from 2pm on the day.
|
For Love Tennis this year, we are promoting this as "The Ultimate FREE Love Tennis Event in Auckland!" and are offering a full-suite of On and Off-Court Activities including: Tennis Coaching, Games, Ball Machine, Bouncy Castle, Face-Painting, Photo Booth, Kids Corner, Free-Shoulder Massages, Coffee, BBQ, Ice-Cream and a fully stocked Bar!
|
This is an important day to celebrate and promote Mission Bay Tennis Club, our new Head Coach Nelson Cuellar and introduce the Community to Tennis.
|
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help on the day! We are still looking for help so will be contacting more Members of the next few days. We value your contribution to the Club. We will be in touch with volunteers over the weekend of Saturday 31st - Sunday 1st September to advise of Activity assignments for the day and look forward to a great day with you al!

Event Promotion and Social Media Engagement
There will be a Colouring-in Competition, which has been circulated to local schools to complete in advance and submit on the day. This is also open to anyone to complete on the day.
|
|
We have also been promoting this in the local community, so keep a look out Posters and join the hunt for Pavement Stickers and take a photo with one, share it on Social Media and join us on Love Tennis Day to be in the running to win prizes.
|
|
|
|
|
Engagement Competition
|
You can also be in the running to win 3 Private Lessons ($300 Value) with Head Coach Nelson Cuellar if you Like and Share our Event and/or Posters on your Own Facebook Page! The Draw will be done on Love Tennis Day Sunday 8th September!
|

|
|
We also encourage you to react (preferably with a Like or Love) on our Socials Media posts when you view them too please! Social Media plays a significant part in the success of the Club by increasing our brand awareness, community engagement and search engines also consider social signals (such as likes, shares and hashtags) when determining website rankings.

6. Summer Senior and Junior Interclub:
|
Saturday Senior Interclub
|
A reminder that the first contest of Senior Interclub is scheduled for Saturday 7th September!
|
We expect the Draws to be released ASAP.
|
For now, the proposed commencement dates for each Grade is as per below.
|
The challenge is for Open Grades which play every week, Odds and Evens alternating weeks. We will only know when your competition will commence once your Teams Grade has been assigned and Tennis Auckland has completed all of the Draws soon.
|
|
Please be patient, this is a significant logistical task for Tennis Auckland!
|
|
|
Twilight Senior Interclub
|
We had a small number of Members express their interest in Twilight Interclub, which is a Weekday evening competition, played on Mondays and Tuesdays at 6.30pm.
|
Twilight Interclub is separate from the Saturday Interclub competitions, however a number of those that expressed interest in Twilight area already playing the Saturday competition. We will be engaging with players in due course to establish whether we will be able to submit a Twilight Interclub Team.
|
|
The season dates are from November 2024 to March 2025, so the Team submission is expected to be due in October and we have plenty of time. Please note we have not had a Twilight Team for a number of years so we are not able to guaranteed this opportunity to those interested.
|
|
Junior Interclub:
Registrations for Junior Interclub were open until Wednesday 21st August.
|
We have received ~20 Registrations and are working through the Teams. Thank you for submitting your Registrations in early.
|
We will be in touch as soon as possible to confirm Teams, Captains and Managers.
|
Junior Interclub Teams will be submitted in September, with the first contest expected to be Saturday 26th October TBC.
|
|
7. Winter Interclub Wrap Up:
Mission Bay entered 3 Senior Winter Interclub teams competing weekly during June and July. In last month's Newsletter we shared the interim results for the Winter Interclub competition with a prediction that our Men's Singles S3 Team would either come 1st or 2nd in their competition.
|
We are pleased to announce that our Men's Singles S3 Team WON their Winter Interclub competition!
|
It was a nail-biting season and it really did come down to the last round of play for the Team!
|

8. August Events Wrap Up:
Paris Olympics Club Night
On Wednesday 7th August, we held out inaugural Olympics Club Night, celebrating the 2024 Paris Olympics,

We had an amazing fun-filled Club Night including 3 special events: Individual Tennis Court Sprint, Tennis Ball and Racquet Relay, and Tennis Ball Throw.

Working Bee
|

Thank you to ALL of our amazing Volunteers that helped on Sunday 25th August to spruce up the Club and Club Grounds.

We had a strong turn out of ~27 loyal Members who willingly volunteered and spent their Sunday morning spring cleaning and generally tidying up for the benefit of all of our Members.
|
Without this Team of Loyal Members Volunteer efforts, servicing the Club, you would not be able to enjoy the amazing facilities that the Club has to offer!
|

Lights: The Lights for the Court come on automatically for all evening bookings. If you cannot make your booking or cut your booking short for any reason please cancel in ClubSpark so lights aren't left on when no-one is playing. We have had a number of community complaints regarding the Lights being left on when there is not tennis played, so appreciate your efforts to address this. It also allows others to use this booking if it’s peak hours.
|
Guests: Please remember all guests to the courts should be paying a $5 court fee. We have noticed a lot of members are bringing guests but not adding them to your booking. To avoid us having to shoulder tap you and to save the committee time please add them at the time of our booking. Maintaining the courts are the clubs largest expense and the $5 fee is to make sure everyone using the courts is contributing to wear and tear - not just our members.

Court Gates: If you are leaving and there is no one else playing on your set of courts please close the gates behind you.
|
|
Super Soaker: Thanks to the generous support of our local board, Ōrākei Local Board, we are now the proud owner of a Bowdry surface water remover. @orakeilocalboard have been great supporters of MBTC, not just financially but also attending our AGM’s (where almost the entire board was represented) and to the ribbon cutting ceremony to open the new floodlights.
