COMMITTEE INTEREST?
Our Club is run by a small, committed Committee, and a number of those members have been giving their time for many years.
As we look ahead, it’s important we start thinking about succession and bringing some fresh perspectives into the mix. Being on the Committee is a great way to help shape the future of the Club, contribute ideas, and support the tennis community we all enjoy. You do not need to be a tennis expert or commit endless hours.
If you’re interested, curious, or would just like to learn more about what’s involved, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch with us for a chat.

VOLUNTEERS
Keen to get involved?
We’re gathering a small crew of volunteers to help our Weekend Tournaments throughout the Annual Event Calendar run smoothly. It’s an easy day’s help — simple tasks, friendly crew, no special skills needed.
Take a look at our Annual Event Calendar and let us know if you’re free to help with any upcoming weekends. You can also join the VOLUNTEERS - BACKBONES OF MBTC WhatsApp group in the Mission Bay Tennis Club WhatsApp Community for more opportunities to support the Club.

Thank you to our Volunteers!
A big shout out to some of our Volunteers who have helped out with a number of big jobs over the summer. Special thank you to the following:
-
Craig McFall - Coordinated the digger to safely remove the fallen light pole on Court 6 during December and Vaughan Podbielski - Coordinated the light pole replacement.
-
Geoff Heaton - Water-blasted the long driveway fence in preparation for painting.
-
Vaughan Podbielski, Amy Crichton, Levi Crichton, Jacob Crichton, Sandra Lawton, Conall Scott, John Williams and Louise Tanner - Joined forces one evening in December painting the freshly water-blasted fence.
-
Louise Tanner - Has since returned for a week in the new year to continue the fence painting.
-
David Bradshaw and Maria Morrison - Put in a huge effort over the Waitangi weekend prepping the opposite fence and clearing weeds.
-
Louise Tanner - Is back again this week, now working on the opposite fence and keeping the momentum going.
This kind of mahi is what keeps our club humming.
If you’ve got an hour to spare for small jobs around the club, we’d love to have you involved. Please join the VOLUNTEERS - BACKBONES OF MBTC WhatsApp group in the Mission Bay Tennis Club WhatsApp Community.
And if you see Louise painting this week, stop by, say hello, or even grab a brush and join in.

WEDNESDAY CLUB SOCIAL NIGHTS & SUNDAY SOCIAL SINGLES
It’s been so great to see so many of you coming along to our Social Doubles and Singles each week and thank you for your patience whilst we have been so busy over summer.
Due to popularity of these events, we have recently introduced changes to both our Wednesday Club Social Night and Sunday Social Singles (Amigos Cup) by splitting these into two sessions each week with advance Registrations required for both.
A big thank you to Julien Delmarle and Geovanni Cota for keeping these events running smoothly despite all the unpredictability around player attendance - late arrivals, early departures, and last‑minute cancellations.
To help keep the fun and flow for everyone, just a few friendly reminders:
Wednesday Club Night:
Session ONE: 7:00 – 8:30pm Session TWO: 8:30 – 10:00pm
Registrations open on our Clubspark Events Menu and are shared by WhatsApp on Tuesday mornings and close at 12pm on Wednesday to allow time to organise draws.
-
Please arrive on time for your Session (7.00pm or 8.30pm). When people arrive late it can throw out the first couple of Rounds. If you’re running late, you may not be able to play until 8.30 pm.
-
If you’ve signed up for the 7.00pm session, please stay for all rounds. Leaving early can mean someone else misses out and it creates extra reshuffling.
-
If you need to leave early from the 8.30pm session, just let us know before you go, so we don’t end up with a court stuck with three players.
-
Please finish the point, not the game, when the end of round bell rings so that the next round can start on time.

Sunday Social Singles (Amigos Cup):
AMIGOS UNO: 4:00pm to 5:50pm
AMIGOST DOS: 6:00pm to 7:50pm
Please Register via the WhatsApp poll. Contact us for details and refer to more details below.

Thanks so much everyone — we really appreciate you helping these events great each week!

In Memory of Dave Haire
The Club acknowledges with sadness the recent passing of former President and Life Member, Dave Haire after a long illness.
Dave was President from 1985 to 1991 and again in 1996-7 after the untimely death of President Ken Steele. During Dave’s presidency the Club experienced exceptional growth both on and off the court. He was made a Life Member in 1999 and also served on Auckland Tennis committees.
His entire business career was with AirNZ where he had a prominent executive role. Unfortunately, he became ill shortly after retiring and sought many remedies.
He and Jan have been at Oceania Meadowbank village for many years with many other ex-Mission Bay members.
Dave will be well remembered and sadly missed.

WAITANGI DAY CLUB NIGHT
MBTC acknowledged the Friday 6th February Waitangi Day at our Wednesday 4th February Club Social Night in a simple, inclusive way to celebrate the people who make our community what it is.
During the night, everyone received a small pouch with kai and a card featuring a koru motif, symbolising creation, growth, strength, and new beginnings. Members wrote one word that represents Aotearoa to them and added it to our unity net. By the end of the night, the net became a snapshot of our shared values and the many ways we experience life in Aotearoa.
Congratulations to Aileen Herman, our Best Dressed in red, black, and white and thanks to everyone who joined in and helped make the night one to remember.
Kia kaha, kia māia, kia manawanui.

Player, Captain and Manager Reminders
Some reminders for all Players (and Parents of Players), Captains and Managers
Please communicate with your Teams. We cannot stress this enough.
Whilst Captains and Managers have the role of coordinating Teams, Balls, Scores and Host responsibilities etc, it is also Player's responsibilities to help ensure that a full Team of Players are represented for every Round. Captains and Managers make every effort to support the Team, but they also have busy lives and are dependent upon Players communicating their availability each week accordingly.
There have been a number of occasions every weekend this side of Christmas where either Captains or Players have not communicated with their Teams and have left the Club scrambling at late hours and throughout the weekend to try and sort something out or resulted in late notification of default.
If you have signed up for Interclub, we ask that you make the effort to play and support your Team please.
Captains - Please return used Interclub Balls to the Club after your Rounds.
Balls are one of the Clubs biggest expenses and we require these for our Wednesday Club Nights and Sunday Social Singles. We understand that some teams hold on to Balls for their Team practice or warm-ups, however, ask that you only keep 1 set of Balls for this purpose and all others are returned to the Club House. Please drop them off in the Box in the Downstairs area clearly marked as Used Interclub Balls.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Good luck for the rest of the summer competition.
