END OF YEAR MESSAGE – THANK YOU FOR A SENSATIONAL 2025

As we reach the end of another vibrant year at Mission Bay Tennis Club, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to every member, volunteer, coach, sponsor and supporter who has contributed to the energy and spirit of our club.

From the buzz of Wednesday Club Nights, Midweek Tennis, Friday Junior and Social Nights, Tennis One NZ workshops, Sunday Social Singles, and Interclub training sessions, to the growth of our Junior programme, this year has offered something for players of every level in a relaxed, friendly environment.

Our long standing traditions - The Rosebowl Tournament and Club Championships sat proudly by our well-established club events such as the annual Social Fundraiser, the Calimero Challenge, Wimbledon Whites, Parnell v Mission Bay, Working Bee and Love Tennis, with newer additions including themed Club Nights (AO, World Tennis Day, Valentine's, St Patrick's, French Open, US Open), Parent-Child Tournament, Multi-Sport Nights (Corn Hole, Ping Pong, Darts), and the Dear Community coaching programme.

Together, these activities have blended tradition, creativity, and community spirit, making 2025 a year full of connection and countless moments on and off the court.

Your enthusiasm is what makes MBTC such a welcoming and lively place to play, learn, and belong.

We are incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together this year, and even more excited for what lies ahead as we continue building a club that celebrates participation, community, and the joy of tennis.

2025 YEAR IN REVIEW

SAVE THE DATE! - TENNIS NZ CLUB OF THE YEAR AWARDS CELEBRATION

We’ll be celebrating our national recognition with a special Awards Party on Saturday 31st January.

Please mark your calendars — full details will be shared in the New Year.

As the festive season begins, we wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful summer break.

Whether you’re travelling, relaxing, or hitting the courts, we hope the holidays bring you joy, rest, and time with the people who matter most.

WEDNESDAY SENIOR CLUB NIGHTS & SUNDAY SOCIAL SINGLES

Wednesday Senior Club Nights

Club Managed Wednesday Senior Club Nights will take a short break over the holidays and will resume on Wednesday 7 January. They will continue throughout January, subject to attendance numbers.

Member Managed Wednesday Senior Club Nights may continue over the break, with Bar open only by trained staff.

Sunday Social Singles

Sunday Social Singles will continue as usual through December and January, also dependent on numbers.

To help us plan each session smoothly, please remember to vote in the weekly polls to confirm whether you’ll be attending.

LIGHT POLE BY COURT 6

As notified earlier during the month, one of the light poles by court 6 has fallen down.

The pole has been removed and we are working towards an installation of a replacement in the New Year.

For now, court 5 and 6 may be affected by reduced lighting during late evenings.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

2026 MAJOR ANNUAL EVENTS

Please save the dates, whilst noting that the dates and events may be subject to change.

Please refer to our Website for the Detailed Annual Events Calendar which also includes important dates for Interclub. Event Details and Registration Forms (where applicable) will also be updated on our Website, Social Media and Newsletters throughout the year.

3. Recent Events

SENIOR DOUBLES CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

Our Senior Doubles Club Championships were held over Sunday 23rd and 30th November, with a few of the Finals rain rescheduled in December.

The Men's A Final will be played out in 2026 so watch this space.

CHRISTMAS CLUB EVENTS

Our Christmas Club Nights were full of festive fun, good laughs, and plenty of holiday spirit, with tennis entirely optional, just the way we like it.

Seniors enjoyed a delicious Christmas Ham feast, our always‑entertaining Secret Santa Steal or Keep, and some truly standout festive fashion.

Midweek Ladies hosted their annual Fat Lady Tournament and festive Christmas Lunch.

Juniors brought the energy with a Christmas Lucky Dip and an impressive lineup of creative costumes.

Congratulations to our Best Dressed:

• Seniors: Cam Soriano, Asim Oguz, Winston Chow, and Shirley Chow who embraced the theme with humour, colour, and plenty of Christmas cheer.

• Juniors: Levi Chricton and Ana Gorbatova, you made the courts look like a Christmas parade.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, supported us, and helped make these nights such a highlight. Our club community is what makes Mission Bay special, and it was wonderful celebrating together.

Here’s to a joyful holiday season and more great tennis in the new year!

ASB CLASSIC LOBBO FOR YOUTHLINE

Thank you to all of the Volunteers that helped to tag the ASB Classic Lobbo for Youthline Balls.

Special thank you Maria Morrison and David Bradshaw and the ASB Classic for the opportunity to help!

4. Interclub

Congratulations to all of our 27 Interclub Teams that have played in the 2025-26 season so far.

Special recognition to the 15 Teams that are currently ranked in 1st to 4th position on their respective Ladders.

Congratulations to our 2 Junior Beginner Teams on their successful first season.

• The Beginner Boys (Mixed 1) 11U Saturday Team came 1st in their Grade, with double the points of the nearest contender.

• The Beginner Boys (Mixed 2) Sunday Team, ranging in age from 8-11 played against opposition aged 12-14 all season and managed to pull off 3rd place.

Congratulations to the following teams that are currently leading their respective Grades:

• First Grade Men Section 1

• Open Men Singles 2

We're looking forward to another great Post-Xmas season.

Please also note a few important reminders from Tennis Auckland:

• Please ensure all Pre-Christmas interclub results are entered and finalised online. This is important so competitions can be accurately updated and prepared for the resumption of play in the New Year. - Captains please note, the Interclub Draws file on our Website has been updated to reflect causes of Pending results for you to follow up.

• Junior Post-Christmas and Midweek Summer interclub Draws are expected to be ready in late January.

• All Interclub competitions will resume from Saturday 14 February.
