The Mission Bay Tennis Club will be hosting its 75^th Jubilee Celebration on Saturday 2^nd November from 6pm at Akarana Marina Centre, 10 Tamaki Drive, Okahu Bay.

This is an opportunity for all or our current and previous Members and anyone with a connection to the Club to come together to reminisce, celebrate and honour the Club that has been such a big part of so many people’s lives over the years.  This will be a fabulous night including Live Music, Canapes, Platters, Open Bar (until 7.30pm or until the Bar tab runs out!)

The Club was founded in 1949, when Tom McNeill initiated the council request for the land and laid and fenced six hard courts at a cost of around £11,000.

In the early 1970s Bruce Wickes and Brian Skyrme, who are both former Presidents and still devoted Members of the Club, and a strong group of volunteers helped to build the Club to become one of Auckland’s leading Tennis Clubs.

In the early 1980s the Club became the first in New Zealand to lay the evolutionary artificial grass surface and in 1988 the dilapidated Club House was replaced by the wonderful Club House that stands here today with its entertaining space and spectacular viewing deck.

The installation of lights on all courts also revolutionized play by making evening tennis possible, and the Club’s Wednesday Club Nights are now popular all year round.

In the early 2020’s the lights were upgraded to an LED system (light-emitting diodes) to provide one of the most energy-efficient lighting options available, and also 3 electric vehicle charging stations have also been installed to provide community support in the transition toward emission-free transportation.

The Club owes it’s success to all of the Members and Volunteers who have contributed to make it one of the best in the Eastern Bays, and dare we say it Auckland!
